Meet Our Senior Team Members Specialized in Real Estate Tax Incentives
Greg Gagon is a real property consultant and tax professional with 40 years of experience. His unique practical history in real estate includes tax strategies, municipal entitlements, development incentives, and project management. He founded the firm RPTI to provide these services in 2003 where he has since acted as Managing Director.
Mr. Gagon has extensive experience in Cost Segregation of Real Estate and is a student of the many court cases and IRS directives that are the foundation of the asset management methodology, including management of annual repairs and 1031 Exchange. The service he provides has taken him to all 50 States and Puerto Rico with a wide range of property uses. His background as an owner and developer of real estate provides him with a unique perspective that is more consistent with clients who range in size from independent owner-operators up to billion-dollar private equity funds.
Greg’s work in municipal entitlement and project incentives includes investments up to $300 million. He acted as member of his local County Planning Commission and County Board of Adjustments for ten years. He received invitations to act in counsel for the County Committee for a New Form of Government, and MAG Interstate Corridor Planning Committee, and has authored land use sections of development code for various municipal organizations. He is accredited as a Certified Community Planner from the Utah Governors Office of Planning & Budget, American Planning Association, and Center for Public Policy & Administration at the University of Utah.
Mr. Pennington is a Cost Segregation specialist with a quickly growing clientele of property owners and CPA firms.
Spencer joined RPTI in 2021 as a graduate of Brigham Young University Idaho with a business degree. Spencer is a very service oriented individual with a desire for success, and has continued his education by practical application of the tax code to real estate, including cost segregation, management of annual repairs and maintenance, and disposition by 1031 Exchange.
Mr. Downey has been a Cost Segregation specialist for over ten years with original experience in the construction trades. He has effectively worked as a departmental manager over 200 people, managing their daily activities and performance.
Justin invests with his family in small construction projects as a general contractor and developer, and has been a successful market speculator of real property.
He currently works in the operations and sales at RPTI; managing client needs as he travels extensively across the US conducting property site inspections, and formalizing the RPTI tax saving documents.
Mr. Cole joined the group to manage and forward the company’s energy incentive services. His formal education includes an engineering degree from Brigham Young University and a graduate degree from Stanford University. Prior to joining RPTI, he worked for 20 years in clean energy and sustainability. He is experienced in the full energy development process with expertise in project identification, analysis, planning, execution, and cost/schedule control.
Mike has a strong understanding of energy markets and technologies, and beyond his knowledge of the 179d and 45L tax codes, has expertise in structuring cost saving net-metered solar projects for commercial, industrial, and agricultural customers including the development of 12 MW of solar arrays. He has also secured seven USDA grants for rural small business and agricultural producers for solar energy products and value-added processing. In addition to solar and wind energy development, Mike has prepared feasibility studies and business plans for ethanol production, food processing, waste treatment, recycling, co-generation, and various agri-businesses.
Mr. Larson is responsible for managing all financial operations of the company, including financial reporting and billing. He is a Certified Public Accountant currently licensed in the State of Utah, and has completed with distinction a Master of Accountancy degree.
Matt also makes contributions to the RPTI cost segregation team. He is a member of the National Association of Realtors with extensive experience in real estate management, investments, and sales. He is actively licensed in the State of Utah as a Real Estate Broker and has been a licensed real estate professional for over 20 years.
Matt previously co-founded and operated Koko Resorts. Prior to Koko Resorts, Mr. Larson co-founded Altius Realty, held the position of Auditor at Grant Thornton, LLP and was the Operations and Compliance Officer at American Bank of Commerce.
